This review is for take out as I've yet to eat inside the restaurant but have done take out a few times now. Here's what I love about them. The food tastes homemade, authentically Cuban like my grandma used to make, portions are huge, taste is ridiculous, prices are right on. Each time I've ordered take out the orders are precise, nothing is missing and everything is expertly packaged. This is not the norm for a lot of other places. I love ordering from Romeus and knowing each time I will be left with a smile! Super Dee-lish my favorites are the Palomilla steak & the bistec artisenal de res.

I have really, really tried to avoid writing this review. I have been ordering delivery from and dining in Romeu's since it opened in Pines years and years ago. At first it was truly wonderful, and possessed the welcoming Latin atmosphere we were lacking in West Broward. However, in recent years, probably over the last 2-3 years, the quality of the restaurant has totally gone downhill. I have consecutively received incorrect orders. I am not just talking about missing a sauce or a side, but missing entire entrees and having them deliver things that we did not order at all. Also, I have been ordering gallo pinto for YEARS and today I was told they have never had this dish and I must have somehow mistaken them for another restaurant. They are literally THE ONLY Cuban restaurant that will deliver to this area of Broward so I am quite certain I am not mistaking them for someone else. Today I also received 4 maduros for a total of four entrees. In my past experience 4 maduros are usually the serving size PER entree. The woman tried to tell me all four maduro pieces were meant for my entire family of 4. Finally, when I called to explain my displeasure about the missing entrees, my completely burnt chicken dish, and the lack of maduros, I was told there was nothing they could do as they could not credit my credit card and they could not replace my burnt chicken dish because they only have one driver on duty (this is a weekend night....). The fact of the matter is that the customer service in this establishment has completely started to circle the drain.

So far my experience at Casa Romeu is lackluster at best. The restaurant isn't that full which regularly should mean slightly faster service. Our waiter is rude and has forgotten most of our orders. To make matters worse, the water they served us has a nasty taste and one of the cups they brought us had lipstick marks on it. The food nearly took 20 minutes to get to us after we ordered it. Before we get to the food let me talk about the mariquitas, they arrived at the table in about 5 minutes (swimming in oil)! Only the top layer was edible (the bottom layer would have been an instant coronary). Once the main dishes arrived thats when the real disappointment sank in. Our Pan Con Bistecs had wet bread (bottom soaked completely). The Palomilla steaks were oily and bland and the fries were flavorless. The only saving thing from my time here is the Groupon that gave me $40 for $25. I won't be returning any time soon.

The service was the worst. People were getting their food while we patiently waited and never got our sandwiches. Not coming back

The recent chumminess of USA & Cuba relations reminded me to write this review. Here in gringo USA (Broward) we get along great with Cuba via Romeus restaurant. This place is a welcome reminder of when I used to live in Miami and had easy access to cafecitos, vaca frita, croquetas and medianoches. While this place surely isn't Sergios or Versailles, you can easily come here and only speak Spanish. The best part of Cuban food is that it is CHEAP. The breakfast here is so cheap I wonder how they make any money. The breakfast special comes with eggs, ham or bacon, potatoes, coffee, & a large loaf of cuban toast - All for $3.50. Coño!!!! My hangover helper is the Steak & Eggs. It's a paomilla cooked to your reference with eggs, onions, potatoes, toast, and coffee for $7.95. Guau!!!! However, the best deal known to man must be the "Millenium Tray" . You get a Skirt Steak (churrasco), Chicken Steak, Pork Chops, Breaded Shrimp, Sausage, Omelletes, Stuffed Cassava with Moro and Fried Green Plantains! This mountain of food can feed 4 - all for $32.95!!!! Dios Mio!!!! I've also had this place cater a couple of parties and it is a VERY economical way to feed a lot of people. Either the Imperial Rice (15 people minimum) or Yellow rice and chicken (10 minimum) but they use the Cuban exaggeration factor when calculating people - add 50% and you will get the true number of people these monster trays will feed (1e platter for 10 feeds 15). Each time we have had so much leftovers that we sent food home with everyone. Overall, Romeus is an awesome trip to Cuba and you don't need to leave Broward.

We went for dinner service for the first time. While we wait we saw like three plates returning to the kitchen. In my opinion Food is bland, service is slow. No flavor at all. It's a shame for Cuban cuisine. Don't come here unless the chance completely their food.

Paula is the best waitress. Great Cuban sandwich. We pulled off the highway on the way to Key West for a long weekend and happened upon this authentic Cuban restaurant. Friendly staff, great food.

One of my favorite Cuban restaurants in the area. Everything is cheap and you get a lot of food for what you pay! Service is good always comes out quick! Went in for breakfast this time and loved everything! We usually go in for a quick good dinner, and cheap!

I lived in South Florida for a while but traditionally stuck with areas such as La Caretta for my Cuban fix. We were doing a work lunch and we stopped by Romeus. The food is not great -- I would say it's probably on the lacking side. It felt more like a cafeteria than anything else.

  • Susie R.

Wow. Great food! We are vacationing in south Florida and wanted some good Cuban-Caribbean food. This place rocks! We had the ox tail in tomato sauce, Palomilla steak, the Miami sandwich, yucca, plantains, and white rice and black beans. We highly recommend Romeu's and would come back again and again if we lived here!

I can eat Spanish food every day for the rest of my life. It's great Cuban food for descent prices. Everyone in there is hard core Cuban so if you don't speak Spanish I hope you understand Spanglish and hand gestures. All the fruit smoothies are amazing because they make them will milk and a shhh load of sugar. You can't go wrong with the typical rice red beans steak and plantains here but if you want something a little more simple get el pan con bistec Romeu. That's my all time go to craving and always hits the spot! The restaurant it self is not all that pretty they still have carpet (and if you keep up with my reviews I don't think carpet in ANY restaurant should be legal). But just come here for some good ole comfort Cuban food and you'll be leaving feeling a little closer to Pitbull. Dale.

Good food. A bit on the salty side. Service was prompt silverware had spots. They should polish them more carefully

Went yesterday for lunch, Sat at counter with one other customer, eating. Three ladies. Two talking at end of counter and one at other end. Waited for a while and the one slid a menu in front of me as she walked by. Not a word spoken. Waited & waited. Totally ignored me and kept talking. Finally I just got the hint and left. Been there once before and same thing. It's Cuban restaurant and obviously do not like Gringos.

Last night we had dinner in Romeu. Had the skirt steak. It was delicious. The rice was also good and had a great meal. Very friendly place. Definitely recommended. My wife had pepper steak and it was also good

Best thing is the complimentary bread. I ordered churrasco med rare it came out purple, when I asked if I could have it cooked a little more I was told "you asked for rare & now the chef has gone home" with a attitude no less, don't get me wrong I will eat a rare steak but not a raw one. NEVER going back.

The food was ok and the service was ok but nothing to write home about. I came this quaint Cuban restaurant on a Groupon looking for a new Cuban place to get my Latin food fix. What I found was a typical mid level Cuban restaurant with an eclectic staff and the same hit or miss food and service that I would expect in a Denny's if I was eating American food. I could go into great detail about what I ordered and what happened, but my last statement pretty much sums it up. The short version. Cafe con Leche and toasted bread - excellent. Currasco steak - over cooked but ok (quite large). My GF ordered the Shrimp and rice (in a red sauce). She really liked it. They don't really get the concept of service like most American customers would expect, I think it's a cultural thing. It wasn't bad service, just strange. For example when I asked for a refill on my soda, the response from the waiter was "you want another one?" Like I should be happy I got the first one. Just a little strange. Overall it was good But not great. 3 Stars. Oh one more thing. If I did come again I would sit at the "bar" area in front. Seemed like service was better there.

Food was typical of a cuban restaurant in south florida but unfortunately the service was the same. Its hit or miss to be honest. Ive had some good service (never great) and ive had some terrible service.

Family owned Cuban cuisine restaurant. We love their mariquitas and palomilla steak. The food is delicious and the servers are very nice. We have been going to Romeos for many years and enjoy this restaurant.

Been coming here for years and overall the last 8 or 9 times I've come the hostess has had the nastiest attitude. Older lady with real short hair. But we do love the food it's just unfortunate that the service cant be better. All she had was excuses to why we had to wait while others say before us that didn't come before us. Well the good news is that we love the food. But please do something about the hostess.

The service has improved a bit the last three times I've been there and they're also remodeling. Great food.

The wife and I had a taste for Cuban cuisine. We ordered the ox tails and shrimp with garlic sauce and a pitcher of sangria. My ox tails were good but they were not thoroughly warmed. The shrimp in garlic sauce was ok. All in all, the large carafe of sangria was the best. I would go back, but won't add them to my top 10 list.

Having lived in Miami for over 10 years, I've had my share of Cuban food. Unfortunately I was a bit north so I decided to give Romeus to save myself the drive down. I love Rabo Encendido, they call it Rabo en Salsa here. Tasted just like the description, oxtail in tomato sauce. Not what I was expecting. The oxtail wasn't cooked as long as it is in other restaurants, where the meat almost falls off the bone. The sauce was very much a tomato sauce, seemed like it was just made. Didn't have the taste of a sauce that had been simmering for hours. The Saturday special of the Camarones Enchilados was also mediocre. The creole sauce wasn't great, which is what makes this a great dish. I have no complaints on the rice, black beans, and sweet plantains. The service wasn't that great... It took a few minutes for a server to approach our table, and he was 5 feet away the entire time. The food came out fairly quickly, but service in between was non-existent.

This restaurant has consistently good food. We have ordered out and dined in. We realky enjoy how attentive the servers are and how they take pride in what they do. Breakfast is cheap..and the cafe con leche is delicious. Must do if you have out of town guest, who want authentic Cuban food.

  • Jacob Z.

I had the plantain with shrimp appetizer. In a nutshell amazing! It was brought out quick without much wait, served hot, and on a festive plate. The plantains were fried just right while the sauce was hot and had a unique flavor with the use of red sauce and even olives. The man entree was whole fried snapper with rice and beans. The fish was cut so you knew where to dig for meat which helped a newbie. Light and flaky meat with a salty pinch. It was enough for 2 to 3 people!

Great food and even greater portions. Seriously, the portions of everything very generous, which is great because the food tastes awesome. Since I relocated back to south Florida it was my first time back in several years. I'm happy to say we will be back many times. Though the decor needs some updating and you may have to wave down a waiter to get a refill, the food and hospitality make up for it. We had the vaca frita and palomillo steak and both were great. The table next to us had the plantain soup which was a special for wed night and I think we will have to come back on a wed to try it. Cafe con leche was delicious too for $1.95.

Cuban restaurants are a dime a dozen in Miami so I have some expectations that need to be met. They were not here. The food was OK, they managed to make my palomilla steak tough and the tostones were either old or overcooked (maybe a bit of both). These are very basic Cuban meals they should make perfectly. I could have forgiven the food to be honest, but what really put this place in the never to be visited category was the service. Took forever to get someone to pay attention to us and service was non-existent once the food was delivered. Busboys were just as inattentive. The place also has carpet all over the dining area that looks pretty gross.

I looove this restaurant. From what I've seen and eaten, it tastes like real Cuban food. It is delicious and it gets really packed here. The atmosphere is very enjoyable and familiar. You can eat on an island section (like the bar w/ stoop) or at a table. I order to go or eat at the island section (like the bar w/ stoop) because it's always so full. My parents love this food too.

I am so sorry I didn't make it to dinner here but certainly can give a fair assessment of breakfast and lunch! Breakfast, hot fast cheap and great, they open just the side cafeteria and it has a very warm "hometown diner" feel to it and that is really needed in this endless sea of strip malls..you walk in and feel at home ..would eat here again, but honestly the food is good the coffee isn't the best I have had....Latin American grill cafe con leche is much richer and better prepared. So are the various gas station coffees ..The lunches are good, they make a good sandwich and price is decent. I still enjoy the walk up windows in Miami for a sandwich and coffee any day, but they are harder to find and the traffic is rough. This is loved by many, and I just " like" it because great coffee is as important to me as good wine is to someone else

The food was Great, we had palomilla, churrasco, shrimp and liver. We all enjoyed very much. The mojito we tried was not good at all. It seemed to have come out of a prepared bottle and they added mint. Very sweet and not very enjoyable.

I came here 5 years ago to check it out. I guess it's still good considering I'm still coming here. Lately I've come here for dinner and breakfast again Since I'm in the area again. Just can't go wrong here. Something for everybody. Daily specials. The best is the prices. Not too expensive. 1 Meal is Enough for two usually. easy in and out is nice also. Oh ya, the food is usually good. I recommend.

There are very few places to eat that constantly produce a great meal. Romeus is one of those restaurants the food is good and the wait time for anything here is very short. I have tried many cuban places and always seem to come back here...nobody does better plantian chips then they do...

It's not fine dining. It's where you go to get that Cuban fix. I've been going here for.. 18 years now.. wow.. I just officially aged myself on Yelp. This place used to be off of 67th near American high next to the blockbuster.. remember? Well, I do. I went there for the first time ever as a field trip with my spanish class. I remember my amazing teacher, Señora Cabrera telling us not to laugh when the lady says, "Well Down instead of Well Done." I can remember going there hundreds of time until one day.....it was closed. WHAT?!?!??!?!?!??!?!?!?!? Do you know how far I would drive to get those delicious mariquitas?!?!?!! Well, they re-opened in Weston, and all though it is not Casa Romeu, the hostess is still the same lady...and to think I have changed a lot in 18 years.. she has, too.... The mariquitas are still the best, but now the sauce is served on the side.. No bueno. They are so much better with it doused on! The churrasco is still good, but I have taken a liking to the Vaca Frita in my old age...and they definitely do it right. I love the flan con coco.. it's the little things in life for me....but one question still remains... Can you please get a soda fountain? I'm over buying canned sodas.. it's gotta be a Cuban restaurant thing. You know I need more than one coke, and it's so embarrassing that I order two cokes straight away...I know those chips will be washed down by the first coke. The service is always on point, but never super personable. Total order takers, but I am not going there for top notch service. The service is prompt and that's important.

Oh MY. Oh MY. Friends ordered catering from Romeus and WOW - incredible value and absolutely amazing food. Huge platters which could easily feed three times as many guests as anticipated, and all the food was wonderful. Don't miss the lechon asado - literally the second best pork dish I have EVER had.

One of my favorite Cuban restaurants. Consistent food and service. Great location in Pines with easy access to the movies and the expressway.

1 they have the best cafe con leche ever! It is consistent every single time even during Sunday brunch when they make it in big batches. We love Sunday brunch...fresh made to order omelets and yes they will make it with egg whites. Everything is kept filled in and hot. We have been there for lunch and dinner. Love the churrasco and Cuban sandwiches. Not so crazy about the arroz con pollo. Breakfast service is always awesome...sometimes a bit slow in the evening. All in all...love it!

My friend and his wife who live in Davie took me there during my visit a few days ago. I had the palomilla steak with rice and beans. The steak was big enough for two but I ate almost all of it since it was so good. I wish I could get the same meal here at home. Cuban food is just better in S Florida and can't be duplicated elsewhere. Although the food was good, the place could have been cleaner. When I went to the restroom, I noticed that the floor on the way there looked like it hadn't been cleaned the entire day. It doesn't take much to sweep a floor.

It took us a while to find it because there's like 6 different plazas in that one area off of I-75. Quaint little place. Definitely felt like a Cuban restaurant from the moment I walked in. They even had a little cafeteria place in a different section for those who are stopping by for a quick bite. My friends and I ordered the 'ceviche de camarones' as an appetizer and it was okay. Nothing too special about it. I've had it better in some other places. The fish yelp.com/biz_photos/rome… They have really good lunch specials. My friend ordered the baby churrasco and it was really juicy. It was like $9.99 for the churrasco, white rice and beans, and sweet plantains. Super good deal. I got the 'bistec empanizado' which is breaded steak and it comes with sweet plantains and white rice with beans for $11.99. The white rice and beans were really good. Rice felt like it was JUST made. The breaded steak was huge. It wasn't too dry, which I liked but the lime I used definitely made it taste better. I barely finished half of it. Plantains were good too but they didn't taste as fresh as they could have been. yelp.com/biz_photos/rome… Overall, it was a typical Cuban restaurant. Nothing too different from the Latin American Restaurants more south from here except maybe slightly larger portions. So I'd give this place a solid 3.5.

I heard the food here was delicious. I wouldn't know however. The restaurant was so friendly until they heard that there would be 3 adults and 3 babies in high chairs. All of a sudden they we're unable to accommodate us. There were plenty of open tables. It was made very clear that we were not welcome there. So u have to give this restaurant a poor review for service.

Subjected to possibly the worst service I have ever endured. Our party of seven went for breakfast on a Sunday for the second time in two weeks. As the last time we asked for menus instead of the breakfast buffet. No issue last time but this time they said they haven't done menus on Sunday for ten years. Finally got the menu and we're told prices would be a few bucks more than listed. Subjected to repeated eye rolls from the manager/owner who did little more than stand by the door. Our server Jenny made it evident that we were causing a major disruption, how dare we expect a full-service restaurant to act as such. We are customers of over ten years as we live near by, we will not be returning.

We came to this place because it had good reviews but, I was really not satisfied with the service, etiquette, or conditions of the restaurant. I really think they need to do a better of job of keeping their restaurant clean. We had cuban sandwiches and they were alright but, not worth it because of how unkept the place is. Wouldn't reccomend especially since there are so many good latin food restaurants in this area.

Great food, great service! David (from NYC) waited on us and he was fantastic. We came during lunch and David directed us towards the lunch specials... awesome. Huge portions, tiny prices (most dishes under $6). We had chicken chicharonnes, pork lechon and the Cuban sandwich. All were delicious, our favorite being the lechon. Finished lunch off with the flad con queso and coconut flan. The group was split on which was best, but both were awesome!! A+++

One of the better cuban restaurants in Broward, Husband and I visit here often because we know the service is excellent and the food will not disappoint. Their daily specials have great prices and are very good. On my latest visit, I ordered the fish soup, which was amazing and the fried fish (to be honest fish was a little bland) but i was very full from the soup and avocado salad. My husband ordered the trio de mariscos and he loved it, this entree is served with white rice and plantains.

Love this restaurant! I can' believe I waited this long to try this place. This cuban restaurant is pretty hidden. It's behind a McDonald's on Dyke and Sheridan. Once you walk inside, you will feel like you are at home. The server/hostess came right away to serve us. There was toasted garlic bread within minutes. I ordered their famous chicken marinated Romeus style and it was delicious. It is not just a baked chicken with no taste, you can actually taste the marinade. My husband ordered the churrasco steak and it was done perfectly. The taste was excellent and I can't ask for more. Next time, I am going to try their fried snapper. You will feel like home when you are there. It's a must try!

This is the only Cuban restaurant in close proximity to our house that we enjoy. I am Cuban, so I know Cuban food. This is authentic and tasty. The pricing is fair and reasonable. The service is quick and friendly. All the traditional options are available. The best Cuban food in southwest Broward County!

So I came again to try this place, due to my last experience. I must say that it has changed my thinking. I came in and they sat me down right away. They quickly came over took my drinks, brought the buttery bread over, and my food came within 15 minutes. Quick service I must say. I am pleased.

First time trying Cuban food and fell in love with this place! Fried fish was excellent, deep fried outside but still very tasteful and moist inside. Pork trotter was great too, the meat melted in your mouth. The pulled beef was so flavorful! Love love this place!

Authentic cuban food at a great price! It has a nice ambiance and very well lit. I have thoroughly enjoyed several items from the menu: Ropa Vieja, Arroz con pollo, Boliche.. You name the cuban dish, it's probably on the menu. The quality of the food is great, not overly seasoned or salted. They bring you fresh cuban bread as you wait for your food and the service is quick.

We came here after reading yelp reviews on father's day and we loved it. The portion sizes are large especially for women (two women can share). But the food was great the service was awesome and we will come back again.

This is a classic Cuban restaurant that takes me back to when I was a kid and ate at the local Cuban restaurant (in Miami, FL). The quality of the food is good and typical Cuban dishes are consistently delish! The food is authentic and the staff all speak Spanish which made me feel as if I was eating in someone's house. Check out the fish soup on Friday! The mariquitas with garlic mojo are devine and the mojo sauce isn't pungent (like the usual mojo which we love) so it's safe to eat on a date! There is a counter-style cafeteria and a restaurant so you can choose your ambiance. They also have take-out and delivery. Don't confuse culture for lack of customer service. The staff is friendly and provide good service and many speak English as a second language so don't fret people! We are regulars here for a reason! Delicious Cuban food in Broward County with lots of options and consistent quality!

I usually come here on late Sunday mornings - after I wake up and l stay in bed too long because I'm too lazy to get up and make myself some strong coffee. Strong coffee craving + Cuban genes = uncontrollable need for Cuban bread dunked in a overflowing cup of cafe con leche. I eventually jump out of bed and come here. There is a breakfast buffet on the weekends - but I prefer eating in the counter area and ordering off the menu. Basically, the selections are all eggs and bacon or ham with or without potatoes, with or without cafe con leche. (who the hell skips the coffee??) For about $6-7 you can have a classic Cuban breakfast - plus order a croqueta or pastele de guava if you're into it. (It's cheaper during the week.) I still haven't learned to just skip all the real food because all I really want is Cuban bread and lots of coffee. Eggs are not good leftovers. The place buzzes with Cuban chit chat - from the patrons to the waitresses who all look like they could be related to at least one of the patrons. I've eaten dinner and lunch here too. More than decent - classic menu. Nothing rocked my world, but it all hit the spot. Frankly, outside of my now long gone abuela's kitchen, no Cuban food can really rock my world. Sorry, Romeus - but you hit my coffee spot every time.

I don't usually like to go out for Cuban food, because when you're already Cuban, it's just "food". That being said, when I don't feel like cooking it myself, Romeu's does the job well. Very generous portions, good prices (especially for lunch) and attentive service. They have a killer pan con bistec empanizado, and if you're judging me, I'm judging your mother.

I got the soup and salad bar. The salad was OK. They had fish soup and chicken soup. The soups were not very good and were a strange orange/yellow color. My boyfriend got some skirt steak dish and it was pretty good.

I use to be a regular here but I haven't been back in awhile. This weekend I was craving Cuban food and I didn't want to travel so far so we came here. I was really shocked to see how dead it was for a Saturday night. The hostess was messing around with her purse and finally came back to greet us. We were seated and ended up waiting a good amount of time before our drink orders were taken. The service wasn't too bad for the rest of our vist minus something missing from our meal. I had a sandwich which kind of seemed thrown together. My girlfriend had chicken which she said was good. We both agreed on two things: 1- The croquetas are really really good. 2- This place isn't as good as it use to be. I would like to add my family has used Romeus for catering at least twice a year. This year my aunt was contacted saying by a manager saying they wanted the money before hand. We have used them for years and they have never done this before. They manager was VERY rude on the phone and my aunt canceled the order. They lost a big catering customer thanks to that. Oh well.

Very poor customer service. I contacted this place based on some of their reviews (for food) for a private party using their contact form on their website and after two weeks I had not heard anything. I then decided to call them and the lady that answered the phone was very unprofessional. First, she said why am I calling if the event is 4 months out (forgive me lady if we want to start planning ahead of time since some places book far ahead of time) and then I asked if she could send me the menu with prices for private events to which she answered that they can't email but only fax (what type of business offering private parties doesn't have email capabilities in this time and age). First impression of this place was such a bad experience, that I'm actually relieved that I didn't proceed with this location for my private event.

This restaurant is one of the best and one of our favorites! Better than La Carreta, Las Vegas and even the famous Versailles in Miami. Better flavor, (actual flavor without being heavy or over-salted) better portion sizes, prices and menu options. We've come here countless of times. I highly recommend it.

Had a Miami Sub & my husband had a Cubano sandwich, the very best we have ever had. Don't miss this place !!!!!!

Truly delicious! I wasn't expecting much from this place and as a matter of fact, I had been in this plaza several times going to Lowes, the movies, or Starbucks and although I knew this place was here, I didn't decide to eat here until a friend came to town and specifically requested that I take her out for Cuban food. I know that some of the best Cuban food is in Miami so I wasn't expecting much from this place in Pines. Tropical Storm Isaac was in full effect so I wanted to stay close to home. Of course, I yelped this place up. When we walked in, breakfast was just ending and the staff was breaking down their breakfast buffet set up which I took a peek at before they took all the food away, and noticed all sorts of food...not only breakfast foods. We wanted lunch and both ordered the Fish Chunks. Before our meals came out, they put a basket of fresh, warm, butter & garlic cuban toast on the table. Mmmmm...so good! It was so soft and crunchy at the same damn time! The food came out and man oh man! That was the best fried dolphin I have ever had, seasoned all the way through! The dolphin was served with black beans and rice and plantains. The rice was just a tad dry but still had wonderful flavor! My friend and I were in heaven. The fish chunks were crispy and meaty & the plantains were fresh!! I hate when restaurants take the short cut on their plantains and serve frozen, weird textured plantains. Fresh is so much better and tastier! I am dying to go back!!

Authentic cuban at an affordable price, the lechon was good but a bit greasy, the palomilla was fantastic, very good black beans and rice with awesome sweet plantains not a 5 star joint by any means but if you are looking for authentic cuban food then this place is a gem!

So convenient and cheap. So many options to choose from. Chicken chunks are a must! Chicken soup is always great, especially if you are under the weather. My husband likes the palomilla, with rice beans and maduros. I go with the bistec de pollo. Food is always flavorful and plentiful.

Huge portions and they come out fast. Pork chops and shoestring fries are VERY YUMMY. Is diner-feely, but I like that!

Complimentary Cuban bread and cafe con leche. Their Sunday breakfast buffet is decent, lacking in variety.. Good food portions for a low price. Service can sometimes be slow but it's bearable. Seems like food quality has gradually declined.

Been here for breakfast and lunch, and always had an awesome meal. Don't miss their fresh squeezed OJ. Every time I want some fresh OJ for breakfast I come here. Delicious! and of course their Cuban food is great.

I just had their $4.95 lunch special which includes 1/2 a Cuban Sandwich, small Soup of the day & Tea/soda. On Thursdays they make Cuban Ajiaco soup! I have to say that it was absolutely delicious. It had lots of calabaza, yuca, malanga and slow cooked beef - for an amazing taste. The Cuban sandwich was also really good - fresh Cuban bread hot-pressed until the Swiss cheese was all melted. It's a great deal. I only wish they could substitute the tea for some Cuban coffee! I think the best plates here are the specials of the day. Call in to find out what's on the menu. Great local place overall...

We dropped by this restaurant after we had an airboat tour of the Everglades at the Sawgrass recreation area. We wanted to sample Cuban food - there were 6 of us. The food was good, but the best thing is that they were flexible to what we wanted. We're small eaters, so we ordered only 3 main meals and we shared them, but we ordered a lot of sides and appetizers. We had what we wanted - broad sample of the Cuban food. The only trouble we had is that the place was hard to find since when you come into the mall, it's right there, but there were no signs along the access road.

I have been coming to Casa Romeus for years and have never been disappointed. It's real Cuban food and great prices. There servers have all been here for years(for the most part) and they are all attentive as well as friendly. I bring everyone I know to this little gem and they soon become regulars themselves. The vaca frita is the best around. I rarely give 5 starts on yelp but this restaurant deserves it.

This is a perfect candidate for RESTAURANT IMPOSSIBLE! They need to shut this place down, gut it and redo it from the old carpet to the old wall paper, to the old ceiling tiles! And then fire the chef and get someone who knows how to cook! Old, old, old. The decor is terrible, the food is not much better. If you order a soda, it comes in a can! Really! canned soda at a sit down restaurant? The 2 dishes we got, garlic shrimp and seafood in creole sauce were tasteless. The side dish of plantains were cold. We asked the waiter if they serve bread with the meals, he said yes, why do you want some? DO NOT believe the good reviews....you were warned!

If your in the Pembroke Pines area and you are looking for some great Cuban food look no further. Everything here is authentic and tastes great. The service is fast and friendly and the prices are good. It gets a little packed in there on the weekends so there might be a little wait , but the wait is well worth it.

I've been eating at Romeus for a long time,,, seems like 10 years ! This is our No1 neighborhood restaurant. We order take out at least once/wk and their weekend breakfast is really good... Steak, eggs and cuban toast with coffee! the best! Their strenght is consistency, all their plates are delicious but when you find a favorite it will always taste the same!! Our favorites are the churrasco or the grilled chicken with rice, black beans and plantains. If you have calories to splurge, try their 'mariquitas'... probably some of the best in Miami!! but you need to share, because they are HUGE! WE love this place :)

Went to Romeus with the family for dinner. With high reviews on Yelp I thought it is worth a try. Long wait for weekend dinner hours. Food was average at best and the entrees we got was cold. I didn't taste anything great at this restaurant. Especially since I live in South Florida there is a Cuban restaurant almost every corner. I think La Careta is much better and that is a commercial chain restaurant. Maybe I'll go back to try it again but not anytime soon.

Went for a Saturday morning breakfast and it took them forever to seat us. The coffee was terrible and the breakfast was nothing to write home. We had the two eggs fried, homestyle potatoes which almost seemed like some type of mash potato thing and ham and cuban toast. very bland and will stick to lunch and dinner instead. Don't waste your time of breakfast

I've been going to Romeus since I was a little girl. There use to be one in the PSN area, but new management ran it to the ground and it closed down. I have fond memories there. I had my 15th B-Day dinner there and my sister had her Sweet 16 party in their adjacent banquet hall. Since it has closed, I go to the SW Ranches one which I believe is their original location. The food is just as good as the PSN one. No other Cuban restaurant in Florida makes better maraquitas and mojo sauce. NO ONE! At least none I have tried, and my step dad is from Cuba so I've been to my share of cuban restaurants. They have an extensive menu of authentic cuban food at decent prices. Their breaded steak, pollo a la plancha and palomilla is delicious. I recommend ordering extra mojo and just pour it on everything. I never use to be a fan of black beans and rice, but since I've gotten older, my tastes are changing and they make the best black beans. The tostones are amazing too. This is my favorite cuban restaurant and definitely worth a try.

UGH this place is stuck in the 90's as far as decor. Same hostess is still there, the older lady;it's nice to see the same faces at a restaurant after so many years. We used to frequent this restaurant every weekend 9 years ago until we started seeing the place little by little start lowering the quality of food and the service was not as good as before. For christmas eve we would order the rice and mariquitas, yuca, for our family christmas party until we discovered Molinas arroz moro, kicks Romeus arroz moro outta the stadium it is so good! Anyways, I have always been addicted to mariquitas and this place had THE best in DADE and BROWARD, not so much anymore. They are way too thin, not fried until they are crispy crunchy goodness, and they serve them cold. ew. We had 2 drinks which were meh, mojito which was entirely too sweet and a long island that was overloaded with cheap tequila. Chicken soup was ok, I guess since we were there later in the evening it was mostly caldo y fidellos (broth and noodles for the gringos). I brought home an ajiaco soup for my dad which he said was very good, surprise! The one good thing about our stop here was the ajiaco soup, oh and the mojo for the mariquitas is still amazing.

Look no further for delicous, authentic Cuban food. This place is official in every way. It's so official, I usually need my Cuban girlfriend just to help me order. The food here is great and the bread they put on the table is amazing. The service here is always on point and they are open late on Friday and Saturday. They also have a full bar and wine selection. It's located right next to a huge movie theater and makes a great before/after movie spot to grab some good, reasonably priced dinner. Que vuelta Romeu's?! Keep up the good work.

I was looking forward to trying a Cuban restaurant in Florida since the community is so huge compared to the one in California. We had a hard time finding the place because it's in a strip mall, and the person who answers the phone doesn't speak English well. We finally find the place, and we're seated. Yay! I ordered a lemonade, but it turned out to be a frozen slurpee-type drink. It was pretty delicious, though. My ropa vieja was tough, which surprised me because I generally find the dish pretty tender. I had rice, black beans, and plantains with the dish. Even the plantains were harder than I expected. I don't know if we came on an off night or if this is typical of the food here. Portions are huge, though, so I ended up eating it for lunch the next day. I found Las Vegas Rest in Plantation better, but I didn't order the ropa vieja there after the poor showing at Romeus. I prefer my beef tender, not tough and chewy. I'd say ropa vieja Cuban Californian style is much better than what I experienced here. Try a different dish if you come here. Maybe the lechon asado would have been better.

The lightly fried fish chucks are my favorite. They are actually like oversized fish patties! Side dishes were black beans, rice and salad (you get three sides). The service was great. The price is well worth it! YUM!

I married into a Cuban family. I've learned to take my Palomilla seriously. I respect good rice. Beans are important. From the mariquitas to the tres leches, this place is great. The service is always good, if a bit indifferent but we often go at odd hours since we're late eaters. I always ask my mother in law if we can skip the fancier places she tries to take me to in Miami and head to Romeu's instead. She always shakes her head at my strange gringa ways, but indulges me. I like that this place is totally casual and family-friendly.

I'm a foodie and obv love Cuban food. This reviews for this place are very misleading because it is a poor excuse for Cuban food. Slow service, poor quality, rice and beans were awful! My Cuban husband tells me after we leave, "when you go to a place like that, stick with something from the pressure cooker!" If you ask me, SKIP IT!!!

We pick up breakfast and dinner from there a lot. Not a big fan of their breakfast potatoes but everything else gets a thumbs up! With your lunch or dinner you MUST order the Frijoles Colorados, the best anywhere! Their Tortilla Vazca is HUGE. Their Tortilla de Chorizo is delicious. The Bistec Milanesa de Res (Beef) is delicious. As you can see we are big fans of their food AND THEIR SERVICE!! Get on over there.

I went in for lunch to order pan lechon and a papa rellena. The papa rellena was delicious the sandwich was not so good. The lechon lacked sabor, but the sandwich was a huge serving! I was only able to eat 1/2. Service could have been better. Only a couple of servers were attentive and cordial. The greeter was not helpful with my take out order. I had to find my way to the other side of the restaurant for assistance and the one server was helpful and quick. Overall average, perhaps I'll have better luck next time.

Looking to get a Cubano, I found this place while searching both Yelp and google. I was very impressed with the Cubano here, the bread was amazing and the sandwich is thick. We also got an app sampler with croquettes, chicken and pork. My was it delicious. Great place for a very affordable price.

This place makes the best platano soup so far. They also have a good breakfast menu where you sit at the counter and order. Freshly squeezed orange juice, cuban coffee, toast, eggs and ham. I really recommend going there whether for breakfast or lunch.

All in all a decent representation of Cuban Food. The Fish Ceviche was OK. Nothing great but a good value. The Steak was a thin cut of Skirt Steak. Tasted and cooked as expected. The Club Sandwich was a generously well made sandwich. I liked the food. Service was as expected. Including 20% Gratuity for Dos People 45 bucks. Good Value.

This is my go to place every time I come home to visit the family. The place has really long extended hours for breakfast and dinner to and from the airport. Authentic flavors and reasonable pricing make it a pleasure to eat here. Great friendly service tops off an already great experience.

I actually love this restaurant! But tonight, not so much. I'm curious to know if the chef changed or even ownership of the restaurant. The food was bland, the person who took the order was rude and wanted to charge us for an extra tiny little container of "mojo", which was strange. Something is up, these people are a local gem, a go to when I dont want to cook and crave a nice home style cuban dinner! I really hope they shape up and tonight's blunder was just that, a momentary bump in my fave cuban restaurant's yummy foody path.

This is the "go-to" Cuban restaurant for those that live west of I-75 in western Broward County. In fact, I think it has grown to become quite an institution in the area if you ask me. That said, this is a family dining establishment. I for one have come countless times with my aunts, uncles, and cousins to enjoy bistec de palomilla, ropa vieja, rabo encendido, vaca frita, etc. It truly never fails! You leave this establishment in a food induced coma. I leave this place always thinking I am going to explode black beans and rice everywhere. And this is a good thing! The servers are attentive. So attentive that once your bread basket is empty, you'll get a new basket before you even realize that you have to order another one. I really like that detail cause there is nothing like having a slice of bread or two before your meal to open up that appetite! The prices reasonable, the place clean. One thing I like to add, which I think is a sign of an honest kitchen, is that once their special of the day runs out, they will announce this over the restaurant's speakers to keep everyone informed! I suppose they just can't keep up with their clientele's demand, huh? All in all, for that Cuban fix, come here!

  • Jason F.

There's a definite formula in South Florida for the "traditional Cuban restaurant". The menus are practically the same, as is the decor and the super friendly service. You're guaranteed to have a good cup of coffee and a cheap breakfast on the weekends. The king of them all (fame wise) is Versailles (with La Carreta waiting in the wings. though most of us in Miami would say "neither") So, what then, do you look for when trying to choose "which one"? Romeu's is sort of hidden in a mini strip mall within a huge complex of mini strip malls, and the giant Cinemark Paradise 24 cinemas in the gorgeous Southwest Ranches of Broward County. Let's not beat around the bush...this is one of the most difficult shopping centers to get in and out of, especially on a weekend. I advise you to enter on the side, on Dykes Road, north of Sheridan. That said, the lunch and dinner fare at Romeu's is your standard deal. Somehow, though, you can taste a little bittle of extra love in the cooking. It's always very hot (temperature) and you get the impression that your server would eat the food with you if they could. Incidentally, these are career servers at Romeu's. They take their jobs seriously, and it shows. So yes, go for the vaca frita, and cuban sandwiches and cafecitos....but, if you want Romeu's special treat, go for the Sunday breakfast buffet. I would wake up out of the deepest, sexiest, Ambien enduced sleep to go pile my plate with their boniatos and fried eggs. Prepare to be in a food coma the rest of the day. I recommend the free standing Starbucks on the way out to,uh, help get the boniatos moving and shaking before dinner. Delicious.

I do love my Cuban food and so coming back to Florida I had to get my fix. I went to Romeu's because I have enjoyed their food before. My friend and I both got lunch specials and paid under 7 bucks with tax and tip. Seriously?!? Yea, and the food was pretty good. I got some yuca in a light garlic sauce and the yuca were so soft and chewy. I had some great roasted chicken with yellow rice. However, I wished it was all mixed together like other arroz con pollo I have had. Part of me wished I had gotten black beans or maybe something else. The service was adequate. Really casual setting in a strip mall. For lunch though, it is hard to beat their prices and their portions.

I have seen great reviews of this place, but it was our first time there. The server was rude, he forgot to bring us water that we all asked besides our can drinks which I personally can't stand either. Menu: I understand is Cuban food, but looking through the menu, I couldn't find any grilled or broiled. Everything was fried, breaded or with tons of sauce. My daughter is a picky eater and she stated that those chicken fingers were the worse she has ever tasted, even worse than fast food ones. (And seriously, you can't really make bad chicken fingers...) Te server spilled red beans on my sister's lap when he was picking up the table and the only this he said was sorry... didn't even offer to bring more napkins for her to clean it up. I believe servers should have a little more customer service. They need to learn that when customers pay, they need to wait until they get back to the register that they shouldn't be looking to see how much tip the customer puts down. There were 12 of us, so we had a split bill and we all caught him checking the check for tip. If I ever have to chose a restaurant in the feature, definitely it won't be Romeu. Sorry, I wont spend my money there again.

Maybe it was an off day? The food was overcooked and the service may have been the worst I have ever experienced. I'll give them a second chance some time in the future then revise this review if warranted.

So far, I'm definitely a fan. We went for lunch a few weeks ago and I ordered the Chicken Romeu which was amazing!! And of course, with the rice, beans and plaintains, this meal was enough for at least 2 servings! I've never gotten to dessert because the servings are so huge I always overstuff myself... Oh and they also have daily specials which are always worth trying. Walking into this restaurant feels like you are walking into your Cuban grandma's home - it feels a bit antiquated, like the furniture should be covered in plastic or something but has that home-y kind of feel. But it works, because the ambience definitely sets the tone for the meal - you know that you are going to get that "homestyle" taste.

3.5 stars. -0.5 stars for the PAELLA. typical order ahead and 2 person minimum, because it takes one hour, but we asked for "Dry" expecting there to be some crunchy good bits to it... and there wasn't any, in the entire platter, it was all quite wet. but the "2 person" serving is GINORMOUS... so don't over order, if you get this. The FRIED RED SNAPPER was Absolutely awesome! Worth ordering, so much so, we finished the one, and ordered a 2nd one! CHICKEN ROMEU - signature dish.. tasty, worth trying, esp if you are in a chicken mood. SKIRT STEAK - Vaca a Churasca - MM! Try this one! tasty, juicy. but when ordered medium rare, medium came out, so order rarer than you normally would. shrimp al ajillo (in garlic sauce) - this was Alright. FLAN - great texture and flavor! CHEESE FLAN - Denser, richer, creamier... I prefer the original. but if you like the thicker kind that stays on your tongue after you've swallowed, go for it. (Either way, if you're going to get a dessert, choose one of these!)

Old and dirty inside. Breakfast was awful. I walked in and wasn't sure if I should seat myself, so I stood there a few minutes while being ignored by several employees. My waitress was somewhat unpleasant, but food came quickly. The scrambled eggs were ok, but Cuban toast was not so toasted. The potatoes were gross, orange in color, over salted, and looked like they were scooped out of a container. The sausage was low quality frozen patties. I ate the eggs and toast, left the sausage and potatoes. Not coming back.

It was pretty good the bistec de pollo I ordered was dry, so ask for extra lime if you order it. The tostones were ok, nothing special except for the fact that they were HUGE. Good rice and black beans. And service is a bit on the slow side but not bad considering it's a pretty busy place.

This was my second time sampling Cuban food while eating out, first time in the Miami area. Whenever I'm traveling, I always want to visit the mom n' pop shops. My friend recommended this place for Cuban food. For appetizers my table had fried plantains doused in a white mojo sauce. Very delicious. For my entree, I had the Roasted Pork, along with black beans and rice. The pork was cooked well, and the rest of the dish tasted good.

I have been coming here for years and their old location as well that used to be located on Miami Gardens drive and 67th avenue so I am a big fan of their cooking. Last nights dinner was very good tasting as usual. I had the vaca frita with morro and it was on point as usual. This is my favorite place to order la vaca frita because they do a really good job at shredding the beef unlike many other joints that are lazy and don't spend the time doing it. The only complaint I have about last night was that the service was terribly slow. It took them over 20 minutes to even get us our water and mean while other tables that were seated after us were getting their orders taken and even food before we got our water. The waiter did apologize for the delay when he came up to my table but still, this is not normal for their operation. I'll give them another chance in the future only because I have been a long time loyal customer and I will revisit this review then....

Being from South Florida, but now living in Seattle, we rarely get an opportunity to eat good Cuban food. Every year, we head down to FL to visit the family and make at least one stop at Romeus. I've had a craving for breaded steaks lately and Romeus usually gets it right. Normally, I order Bistec Mileneasa but wanted some of the thin tomato sauce added so I went with their Bistec Artisano. The steak and breading was great, but the sauce was awful. The rest of the meal as usual was good, moros rice, plantains, great Cuban bread. I will definitely go back but this time no sauce.

This is my parents neighborhood Cuban restaurant, and as such, they order quite a bit from here. When they're being lazy, they will order just sides to complete the meal! LOL So, to say I frequent this place, might be an understatement... ;-) Anyhow, they are really tasty and very reasonably priced. Whether you dine in or take out, it's alwyas a great experience. I have never had any problems or complaints. :) On the weekends they are SUPER busy and there is usually a wait. My parents live so close that either way, I usually just prefer to do takeout and eat it at home. Anything you order is going to be dliscious and savory. NEVER DISAPPOINTING! I am not sure if they do a weekend brunch, as I am never in this area earlier than noon... But I would imagine they do...

This is a very respectable homestyle Cuban restaurant in west Broward. Service is usually OK, and classic Cuban dishes like Palomilla Steak, Ropa Vieja and Flan are done right. Almost everything I have sampled here is at least a little above average except for the Cuban sandwich which is pretty average.

I asked a local friend where I could go for good Cuban food and he highly recommended this place. Judging from how packed it was on a Thursday night, I had high hopes. I enjoyed a tasty skirt steak and rice and beans. That might not sound exciting but it was awesome. I have a bookmark file of places where I'd like to eat again and this is definitely on that list. The Yuca Rellena was great, too. Top that off with fried plantains for a not-too-unhealthy dessert. Portions were large, the prices were reasonable and the atmosphere and staff felt "authentic" (unlike a chain restaurant).

I live in NY and am only in Fl when i visit my parents. They took my family for dinner here one night. Like a good yelper I checked it out. The staff were great. This place has a great family feel to it. It shows in the food. Everything we had was amazing, from the soup, to the fired snapper to the oxtail weekly special. Will return next time we are in town.

So at my request based on a friends recommendation and the previous reviews, we went here for my birthday. There were about 13 of us. It was a Saturday night & we made a reservation. We got there right around 8 p.m. & we did not have to wait. We were seated immediately in the back room of the restaurant. There were other tables in there with patrons. We had a great time & enjoyed ourselves, but I have to say that I would never go back to Romeus. The food was good to average in my opinion and the service was awful. One waiter complained when I asked for a refill of water & after our food arrived the waiter disappeared & one of my guests had to wait forever to get a refill of her water. Some of the guests in my party ordered sodas. They brought out a can and cup with ice, so they do not give free refills. I had iced tea which does bring refills. For 9 adults & 4 young kids the bill was $170+. I thought that was a little too pricey for this place. Let me just say though, that my husband had that big fried fish & he loved it. I am posting a picture of it. Next time I want good Cuban food I'll go to Las Vegas Cuisine on Pines Blvd. in Pembroke Pines or La Caretta.

The one redeeming star is for the food. The service at this place is nonexistent. I repeatedly asked for an item three times to no avail. The waiter just ignored my request each time and failed to notice that all the water glasses at my table were near empty. You get better service at a drive through mcdonalds.

My parents live in Hollywood, 11 miles away from Romeus, and yet this is where they go for Cuban food. The staff is attentive, and the food is wonderful. When I visit, it's the first place we go - straight from the airport! Our favorites are the fried whole red snapper (fresh, crisp, not greasy, and cooked just right), the baby churrasco, and the palomilla. The homemade soups are best if you go right at the beginning of lunch, and I never miss the frijoles negros. A highlight for me is a huge glass of freshly-squeezed orange juice (no ice - it's not necessary) - so good! ...and of course, every meal must be finished off with a cafecito - strong and sweet, like the Cubans themselves. Who needs dessert (although their flan and tres leches are great)? Romeu's is close to my heart because they really do care about their customers. My parents, who are older, eat there about once a week or so. One day, their first day back after a long trip out of town, the owner and the servers greeted them like long-lost relatives, asking where they'd been and if they were okay. Gotta love that!!

Great Cuban restaurant. They do everything well. I went there often when I lived in Weston - and go everytime I visit South Florida. If you live or are in the area, go to Romeus.

On vacation in Florida and wanted to find some authentic Cuban food as it's always better the closer you are to the source. Romeu's was great, the service was friendly and the food delicious. I couldn't recognize hardly anything on the menu so it was definitely authentic! Extra bonus.... It's a lot of food for cheap!! Especially the $4.99 lunch specials.

i lived in South Florida from 2000 to 2004 and I have to say that this place is what made me fall in love with Cuban Food. I miss it so damn much. I use to order the Bistek Empanizado...oh man that dish made you sing with joy....it was great! and their "mariquitas" ...wow so amazing as well. I cannot wait to go back (hopefully early next year).....my mouth waters every time i think of this place.

Being a cuban american I;ve had a lo of cuban food in my lifetime, prob since I was a baby eating in my grandmas kitchen. Casa romeu's is close by, very traditional, cheap prices, great quality of food. you get complimentary cuban bread with butter: a staple, appetizer- mariquitas con mojo all the way. Lunch or dinner they have everything and anything , I love the bistec de palomilla with black beans and rice and maduros with lots of lime,,,yum. Or their picadillo is moist and flavorful, also theyre media noche is yum as well, theyre kids chicken fingers are delicious. Basically you cant go wrong, Order an iron beer or materva to drink and your set. Finsih off with flan, or arroz con leche and you have a classic cuban meal.

This restaurant is not bad but the last two times I went, the food was less than spectacular... I've definitely had better Picadillo.

Love it! Great food, quick service on a busy saturday night, going back to try their sunday buflfet breakfast. Definetly the best cuban restaurant in my neighborhood of pembroke pines. I had the palomilla which was perfectly done.

The breakfast is way greasy but the traditional cuban dinners/lunches are great. It's a neighborhood staple when you want some good starchy food to chow down on.

i tend to always go back here for a meal during the week or when you just want comfort food. the atmosphere sucks. the rooms in the back are creepy but when its crowded(alot) you have to sit where theres room. the wait staff is attentive, servings are huge and price is right. i like the first room the most. it doesnt feel like youre being shoved somewhere. roast pork is good and so is chicken soup. go to dininghalfoff.com for coupons for this place.

Doesn't get much better than this! Discovered by accident some years ago but have been going back, even out of our way, if the situation presents itself. Good food! The real deal! Good ambiance! Great waitstaff! Friendly! Can't go wrong with anyone at the counter (which we enjoy), Vilma is one of our favorites...Luz Maria, Lourdes, all good! Very popular with the locals. Nuf' said!

This is a great place to eat Cuban food. It was very authentic and was very good. I tried several things and they were all very good. This is a local place that tourists don't go to, but I did anyway. I would recommend this place if you want good cuban food.
